Houston is a prime city in Texas. It is one of the most important metropolitan cities in the USA and is the most populous in Texas. Houston is known by many names, ‘Bayou City’, ‘Space City’, and ‘H Town.’ It is home to many businesses, industries, and cultural and historical centers.
History
Houston was originally home to Karankawa tribes. But civilization didn’t come till the 1830s. It was discovered by Augustus Chapman and John Kirby and quickly began to be developed. The Texas Congress made Houston its temporary capital. The population rose drastically. It became the seat of Harris County and remains the same to this day.
Houston developed as a trade center. It became the hub for the export of cotton. In the 1890s, it was considered the railroad center of Texas. It was also developed as a deep-water port.
Houston is named after Sam Houston. He was the president of the Republic of Texas. He had played an important part in the Battle of San Jacinto.
