While originally it grew as a purely residential town, where residents would commute to and from work in Houston, it later saw exponential growth as more and more companies, industries and commercial projects began to be established within the area. Today, companies like Baker Hughes, McKesson, Safmarine, and Halliburton have offices located in The Woodlands.
